Jan Elder is the director of contracting services for WellLink Group Purchasing. As director of contracting services, she is responsible for guiding all activities related to the development and administration of the WellLink Group Purchasing contract portfolio, including RFXs, contract negotiations, renewals, launches and uptake, savings and fee report monitoring.
Jan Elder has spent virtually her entire career in healthcare materials management. Prior to joining WellLink Group Purchasing, she spent over 20 years working in area hospitals as a buyer, purchasing manager and director of materials management. During this time, she developed a wealth of experience in all areas of the supply chain, including purchasing, contract negotiations and all aspects of GPO contract administration. Through daily contact, her greatest areas of expertise became capital equipment, the OR and nursing and storeroom products.
Elder spent her first five years with WellLink working as an account manager, serving members in all classes of trade. This fieldwork gave her a deep understanding of the needs of the WellLink membership, particularly in the non-acute arena. In 2009, Elder was asked to take over the management of the WellLink portfolio of contracts, a position she holds to this day.
Elder now applies her negotiating, problem-solving, analytical and customer service skills to her role as leader of the WellLink contracting department. Her goal is to serve the entire WellLink membership through the creation of relevant, value-based GPO contracts that provide a win for both members and suppliers. Additionally, as a well-networked contracting expert, Elder is continuously identifying ways to drive utilization and developing new opportunities for WellLink contracts. She’s committed to ensuring the productivity of contracts and making sure contract deliverables and terms are met.
Elder is responsible for developing WellLink Group Purchasing’s revenue recovery process. Her sharp eye and consistently successful submissions brought her to the attention of Premier’s revenue recovery department. In June 2013, she was invited to speak at the Premier Breakthroughs Conference on the topic of GPO revenue recovery. Her presentation, “Contract Disconnect Investigations: Solving the Mystery of Missing Administrative Fees,” focused on best practices developed under her leadership.
